Blog: Flavors of Edgewater

Posted 01.17.2021

Away from the many showy and sceney venues of South Beach—and near the new Biscayne Bay waterfront condos at Missoni Baia—several culinary innovations and fusion restaurants are causing a stir among locals and tourists alike. The following sites are all just a short drive or Uber ride away from these luxury East Edgewater condos, and they’re where you’ll want to be this summer.

MC Kitchen – 4141 NE 2nd Avenue

Aspen-born chef Dena Marino made a name for herself in Colorado, but in Miami’s Design District, she is making it household. Utilizing her Nonna’s authentic recipes and techniques, she has infused rustic Italian cuisine with a contemporary emphasis on farm-to-table ingredients, and the results must simply be tasted to be believed. Simple, flawlessly executed recipes bring the richness of the Italian flavor palette to life, but with a uniquely American sensibility – take, for example, the Tennessee Honey Glazed Eden Farm Pork Chop, accompanied by a ceci puree, and a mind-blowing hash composed of brussels sprouts, bacon, and apple. The Capellini con Bottarga is not to be missed, either, tossed in a unique sauce featuring oven-dried tomatoes, chilis, and orange zest.

Mandolin – 4312 NE 2nd Avenue

Aegean cuisine thrives on simplicity, and in this sense, fans of Missoni Baia’s clean and crisp architecture will find spiritual harmony in their experience at husband-and-wife team Ahmet Erkaya and Anastasia Koutsioukis’s Mandolin Aegean Bistro. Set in a restored 1930’s-era home, this restaurant offers a dining experience that transports you to another time and continent, both through its atmosphere and its menu. Try the manti dumplings, featuring minced lamb, garlic yogurt, Aleppo pepper (not too spicy, we promise!) and burnt butter, and make sure to pinch yourself – yes, you’re still in Miami!

Sugarcane – 3252 NE 1st Avenue

With its sister location being named one of Las Vegas’s best new restaurants in 2016, Sugarcane is known for its outstanding food selection and beautiful presentation. The dishes are served tapa-style, allowing patrons to try a selection of menu options. Guests are awed by the fun, festive, inviting entrance and surrounding atmosphere that includes both indoor and outdoor seating. With the add-on of spotless service throughout the dining experience, Sugarcane is certainly an easy spot to spend hours, sipping cocktails and people watching. When you stop in, do yourself a favor and try the Foie Gras and Duck Fried Rice!

NOA Café – 2711 NE 2nd  Avenue

This little gem of a restaurant is tucked away and can be easy to miss if it’s not on your radar. However, once you’re in the know, you’ll be glad NOA Café is just a short drive from Missoni Baia, with convenient street-side parking available right around the corner. A great find for healthy food that won’t leave you feeling overstuffed, the menu features an array of homemade Israeli dishes. With happy hour deals, outdoor seating, and the option to bring your dog along for the fun, it’s easy to understand how NOA has become a locals’ favorite. When you make the trek, say yes to indulgence and go for the flourless chocolate cake.

Mignonette Miami – 210 NE 18th  Street

Nestled on a corner in Downtown Miami, Mignonette is known for real food and real service. Offering fresh, carefully prepared dishes that are filled with flavor, Mignonette is where you go to splurge on some of the tastiest seafood in town. The expansive wine list includes a lot of lighter, lesser-known whites that are great to pair with the dishes, especially the seafood tower or clams casino. And there is ample parking if you choose to take a drive from the luxury residences at Missoni Baia.

Lagniappe – 3425 NE 2nd Avenue

Lagniappe is a fantastic little wine bar, filled with an eclectic array of sofas, tables, and chairs. As you enter, you’ll immediately see the stage where live musical acts jam out throughout the evening. Pick your own meat and cheese plate, order a bottle of your favorite vino, and enjoy the gorgeous patio that is illuminated with twinkling lights and decorated by lush vines. The attentive service, reasonable prices, and dog-friendly, relaxed atmosphere make this a fun spot to spend an evening with friends.

Get in Shape at Missoni Baia

Posted 01.15.2021

The new year represents an opportunity for growth. From reading more to learning a new language, this time of year is when we set goals that are meant to level-up our lives. One aspiration that usually falls by the wayside by March is getting fit. Whether it’s a shortage of time or a lack of the right equipment, there are plenty of reasons for abandoning your fitness regimen. Thanks to the world-class gym amenities at the East Edgewater condos of Missoni Baia, this year can be different.

No matter what your workout goals might be, there’s something for you in the vast 3,208-square-foot on-site fitness facility at Missoni Baia. Get in shape without even leaving the building — no treks through the snow to the gym, and no signing up for spin classes or waiting your turn in a crowded weight room.

Every good workout begins with a thorough stretching session, and while you can do your foam rolling and calf stretches on the gym floor, why not take your warmup to the next level and head to the private yoga studio for some deep muscle work? A yoga mat is the only thing you’ll need as you practice your downward dog in this serene and quiet space. The private yoga studio is also a great spot to begin your day or wind down your evening with some stress-reducing asanas.

Once you’ve loosened up your muscles, it’s time to put them to work. This fitness facility’s weight area affords a clean and respectful environment where you can tone up, whether you’re using the free weights or the top-of-the-line weight machines. Feel free to take your time here, as there’ll be no line of gym-goers impatiently waiting to grab the dumbells the second you’ve finished.

There will also be no line ahead of you to use the plentiful cardio machines. Burn off some major calories on the elliptical and save yourself the hassle of signing up for a fitness class as you cycle to your heart’s content on the exercise bikes. You can even take a run or walk on the treadmill without feeling the Miami heat. For a boutique fitness experience, consider a personal trainer for the private training room. The best part of all of this? You get your workout while taking in the stunning 180 degree views of Biscayne Bay.

An often overlooked aspect of a workout is the recovery. At Missoni Baia, you can recover in luxury in the steam room or sauna. To truly indulge, hire a masseuse to knead your sore muscles in the private massage room. After all that hard work, you deserve it!

Make this the year when your fitness resolution stays on course with the fantastic gym facilities at Missoni Baia.

Give Back This Holiday Season

Posted 12.23.2020

Living at Missoni Baia will always be about more than panoramic waterfront views and luxury amenities. The Miami community is part of the lure. As members of this community, residents of these Edgewater condos will have a duty to give back to those around them, and the holidays present the perfect opportunity to share with the less fortunate.

Since 1922, the Miami Rescue Mission, also known as “The Caring Place,” has served the homeless and underserved populations of South Florida, bringing their core values of compassion, hope, restoration, and transformation to their work with thousands of people each year. From providing basic shelter and food to offering programs and resources aimed at training and housing their clients, the Miami Rescue Mission is a positive force and a fantastic place for Miami residents to engage with their less fortunate neighbors.

This season, the Miami Rescue Mission is running a Christmas Toy Drive with the goal of giving more than 6,000 boys and girls gifts this holiday season. They’ve even made donating easy and efficient with a web form full of suggested items that are guaranteed to bring a smile to a child’s face. Plus, with plenty of drop-off locations, it’s a safe and simple way to give back. Beyond toys, the Miami Rescue Mission is always looking for donations of all kinds to use in their centers. Items like unused furniture and appliances can make all the difference for adults and families in need, and all donations to the Miami Rescue Mission are tax-deductible.

Future Missoni Baia residents seeking a closer connection with those in need can volunteer to help with a number of Miami Rescue Mission programs, ranging from serving meals or tutoring to helping with basic maintenance at the organization’s centers. No matter someone’s level of experience or desire for engagement, the Mission will put them in a position to do the most good.

Finding a way to serve others is the best way to become part of a community, and residents at Missoni Baia are sure to build lasting connections, thanks to nonprofits like the Miami Rescue Mission. Head to the organization’s website to sign up for something this holiday season, then double-check that you’ve secured your under-construction waterfront condo at Missoni Baia. After all, you deserve something special this holiday season as well.

Supporting the Miami Design District

Posted 12.21.2020

Loved for its upscale dining options and art galleries, Miami Design District is also a first-rate choice for some serious holiday shopping. You can support this creatively commercial district, which is just moments from Edgewater and the Missoni Baia condos, by taking advantage of smart delivery and pickup services that will keep you and your community safer during and after the holidays. If the choices seem overwhelming, remember that a personal shopping service is available.

Cartier

Merely uttering the name of this Parisian jeweler and watchmaker is enough to set some people’s spines tingling. This Design District boutique, which is offering retail to-go and delivery services, is where you’ll likely discover *the* present for your someone special: perhaps a Saphirs Légers de Cartier bracelet set with pink sapphire for her or a Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch—guaranteed to be treasured for a long time by the gentleman in your life.

Celine

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stumbled into an arrondissement of Paris because Celine is another lauded Parisian brand, right here in Midtown Miami. Buy 1950s-style cat-eye sunglasses—your giftee will love parading up and down the waterfront in them. These stylish shades are complemented by the vegetal calfskin sandals—in a delicious burgundy—which Celine also has for sale. There are just as many gift ideas for men: consider a paisley print shirt to pep up his wardrobe and a bifold wallet with Triomphe canvas as a stocking-filler. Services include “click and collect” and curbside pickup.

Burberry

From Paris, we “move” to London—and the heritage-steeped Burberry brand. Aside from a lip-licking selection of scarves, clutch bags, and trench coats, the store proffers a range of perfumes that’ll please any family member. Our personal picks: the Burberry for Men eau de toilette is a rich and spicy classic, suited to discernable gents, while the Her Intense perfume has head-turning notes of blackberry, jasmine, and cedarwood. The Burberry US website will be accepting orders until December 23rd for on-time delivery for Christmas.

State of Kid

Baby and toddler clothing make a practical gift, yet it’s difficult to find designs that truly pop. State of Kid has got your back; this baby boutique sells retro-style Sun Valley Crew tees, Animal Ballet swimsuits, and avant-garde rompers. Whatever you buy from here, it’ll put a grin on the face of the little one and their parents too. Orders can be placed on their website. But an even better present might be a gift card that friends and family can use when you show them around the Design District in 2021—after you’ve registered to learn more about your future home in the Miami waterfront condos for sale at Missoni Baia.

Thanksgiving Preparations at Missoni Baia

Posted 11.25.2020

There’s still time to prepare for a wonderful Thanksgiving. On the doorstep of the Edgewater condos at Missoni Baia, you’ll find cake shops, stores selling bling tableware, and—if you’re in the mood to be pampered—restaurants providing Thanksgiving dinner deliveries or pickup options.

Be Thankful for Your Living Room and Dining Room

A Thanksgiving dinner is the perfect inspiration to freshen up your tableware collection. Make your meal sparkle with Blair flatware gold cutlery and celestial dinnerware from West Elm. Call in at Mrs. Mandolin to pick up a stylish set of Peugeot salt and pepper mills, plus a yellow-ware pitcher—ideal for serving your guests apple cider. Meanwhile, at Design Within Reach, they have Raawii Strøm vases for sale; fill one with a festive spray of red, orange, and golden flowers from Zoom Bloomz—just a seven-minute stroll from the condos. Finish off those festive feels with a fitting aroma. Candle Land Miami invites you to craft your own candles: think warming scents like apple spice, sandalwood, or even snickerdoodle. Any of these, wafting through your condo, will get the Thanksgiving vibes going.

Pick Up a Thanksgiving Cake… and a Bottle of Bubbly

Looking for a Thanksgiving cake to steal the show? Save yourself hours of baking by heading to Sweet Couture by Daly. They’re experts in bespoke cakes—crafting anything out of sponge and icing—from electric guitars to Parisian cityscapes. (What’s more, the cakes taste as good as they look.) Why not commission a Thanksgiving-themed cake to wow your guests? Otherwise, order from Sweet Couture’s mouthwatering list of dessert options, including lemon chiffon and decadent dark chocolate ganache. As an accompaniment to your sweet treats, pick up a couple of bottles of Bollinger from Vintage Liquor & Wine Bar II in Midtown.

Let the Pros Cook for You

If you’re planning a Thanksgiving so laid-back that it may not even take place on a Thursday, Malibu Farm Miami Beach will provide a full Traditional Thanksgiving Turkey or Holiday Ham meal for pickup from now until November 29th (with three days advance order).

Meanwhile, the deadline to order a South Beach Wine and Food Festival Thanksgiving Table To-Go feast is Sunday, November 22nd. You can choose a delicious meal to eat in your Edgewater home, knowing that you are also helping support the hard-hit local hospitality community. Dolce Italian will give you until 5 pm on Monday, November 23rd, to order their individual and family Thanksgiving dinner for takeout or delivery. Choose now, be thankful and careful, and enjoy the day!

Missoni’s Reading List

Posted 11.05.2020

Spending a lot of time at home this year? You’re not alone. Make the most of it by getting lost in a great book, whether it’s a recent best-seller or that novel you’ve been meaning to start. Residents of the Edgewater condos at Missoni Baia can take their reading poolside to soak up the glorious Miami sunshine, or simply curl up in their living room with Biscayne Bay as the backdrop. If you want some recommendations for your next great read, here are some of our favorites.

Tara Westover’s gripping memoir, “Educated,” has been gracing best-seller lists for quite a while, not to mention the reading lists of Barack Obama and Bill Gates — and for good reason. A National Book Critics Circle Award winner, “Educated” follows Westover from her isolated upbringing in rural Idaho to the upper echelons of academia at Cambridge and Harvard Universities. As she grapples with her abusive family and her father, who denies her access to formal education and health care, Westover maps the future she envisions for herself and comes to accept the distance it creates from the Buck’s Peak mountain of her childhood.

Another of our favorites is Jeannette Walls’ 2005 memoir, “The Glass Castle” — a longtime New York Times best-seller and the subject of a 2017 feature film. In the book, Walls masterfully traces her dysfunctional and peripatetic childhood in Nevada, Arizona, and West Virginia. Walls’ childhood is pierced by turbulent interactions with relatives, episodes of sexual abuse, and the dominating presence of her father, Rex, who pursues his quixotic dream of building a glass castle at the expense of his family’s basic needs. Despite the tragedies woven throughout her childhood and early adulthood, Walls’ memoir isn’t overly sentimental, but, instead, is filled with vignettes of subtle joy and a sense of adventure.

Georgia Hunter’s debut novel, “We Were the Lucky Ones,” fictionalizes the stories of various members of her family during the Holocaust — and offers a redemptive message of the Kurc family’s superhuman will to survive. The tale revolves around three generations of the family, and begins with the shadow of impending disaster creeping over this middle-class Jewish family’s day-to-day life in Radom, Poland. Hunter skillfully weaves well-researched historical details of the horrors that faced her family into the heart-pounding plotting of a Hollywood thriller. The result is an utterly engrossing read, with unbelievable feats of will made believable by Hunter’s fidelity to history.

Each of these books will likely linger in your thoughts well after you turn the final page. But you can keep the discussion going by coming together with friends and neighbors at Missoni Baia, or by engaging virtually with bibliophiles from around the world. Virtual book clubs have become a welcome trend in 2020, which has made finding new title recommendations, tackling a daunting epic like Leo Tolstoy’s “War and Peace,” or simply connecting with other avid readers all the more convenient. The popular Quarantine Book Club hosts meetings via Zoom, while other clubs have tackled single texts like Albert Camus’ “The Plague.” Literary Hub offers virtual programming of its usual roster of events, from readings to Q&A sessions with authors. You can find an extensive list of clubs here for added inspiration.

Whichever absorbing tale you decide to pick up next, we recommend you settle in with your book in the comfort of home.
